Your journey begins with a hearty breakfast at your lodge in the Maasai Mara. Afterward, you’ll transfer to the airstrip for your flight to Entebbe, Uganda, via Kisumu in Western Kenya (for customs check) a quick and scenic journey of about 1.5 hours.
Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you’ll connect to a domestic flight to Kihihi Airstrip, a short 1.5-hour flight that brings you closer to the enchanting Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Our guide will meet you at Kihihi for a picturesque one-hour drive to your lodge, located in either Buhoma or Rushaga, depending on the location of your gorilla trekking permit.
Settle into your eco-lodge, surrounded by lush rainforest, and take in the breathtaking views. Later in the evening, attend a pre-trek briefing where you’ll learn essential gorilla trekking guidelines to prepare for the adventure ahead. You have the option to visit the Gorilla Health and Community Conservation Centre (Gorilla Clinic) in Buhoma, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The facility focuses on gorilla health and community conservation.
Wake up early for a hearty breakfast before heading to the park headquarters for an informative orientation and group assignment. Led by experienced rangers, you’ll embark on your first trek into Bwindi’s dense rainforest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site teeming with biodiversity. The trek, which can last 2 to 6 hours depending on the gorillas’ location, is an exhilarating adventure through rugged terrain and serene forest pathways.
When you locate the gorilla family, you’ll have a precious hour to observe them in their natural habitat. Marvel at their gentle interactions, playful juveniles, and commanding silverbacks. This intimate encounter is sure to leave you in awe of these remarkable creatures.
After the trek, return to your lodge to unwind and enjoy lunch. Spend the rest of your afternoon at leisure, perhaps relaxing with a spa treatment or exploring optional activities like a guided nature walk or a cultural visit to a nearby local villages. In the evening, indulge in a sumptuous dinner as you reflect on the day’s unforgettable experiences.
Another early start awaits as you gear up for a second day of gorilla trekking. After breakfast, you’ll head to the park headquarters for a new orientation and group assignment. With over 20 habituated gorilla families in Bwindi, your second trek will provide an opportunity to explore a different part of the forest and observe another unique gorilla family.
Each gorilla trekking experience is distinct, offering a new perspective on the daily lives of these gentle giants. Whether it’s a playful youngster swinging from branches or a silverback displaying his dominance, every moment is captivating. For amateur or professional photographers, this second trek is a great opportunity to enjoy the moment.
After your trek, return to the lodge to rest and savor a well-deserved lunch. The afternoon is yours to relax or participate in optional activities like birdwatching or a hike to a scenic viewpoint. Wrap up the day with a celebratory dinner, cherishing the memories of two incredible gorilla encounters.
After breakfast, you’ll transfer back to Kihihi Airstrip for your domestic flight to Entebbe. Depending on the timing of your onward journey, you may wish to enjoy an optional Cheese and Wine Sunset Cruise on Lake Victoria.
From Entebbe, you’ll connect to your international flight or continue on to your next destination, leaving Uganda with unforgettable memories of your gorilla trekking adventure.
